Deployable L-Band Quadrifilar Helix Antenna for PNT Applications in LEO
Deployable L-Band Quadrifilar Helix Antenna for PNT Applications in LEO
This paper reports on the outcome of a proof-of-concept activity, performed by Anywaves in the frame of an ESA contract within the FutureNAV programme for the development of a LEO-PNT In-Orbit Demonstration led by Thales Alenia Space as Prime Contractor. Various antenna solutions were considered, including multi-functional antennas, operating in L, S and C-band, having a form factor compatible with nanosatellites. The most challenging design is the L-band isoflux antenna, which requires the development of a specific deployment mechanism to achieve a stowage volume of only 1.5U. The design trade-offs are presented and the results of the breadboarding activities are reported.
